On Saturday, January 17, 2026, the United Arab Emirates will observe the Day of Resolve, a national milestone that reaffirms the country’s unity, determination, and unwavering readiness. This occasion commemorates the nation’s calm and resolute response to the 2022 security challenges in Abu Dhabi, transforming a moment of adversity into a legacy of national solidarity. As part of the 2026 commemorations, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has invited all residents to join a “national moment” at 11:00 am, when the national anthem, Ishy Bilady, will be broadcast across all media platforms to honor the spirit of the UAE.

Where and When to Watch: 2026 Aerial Display Schedule

The highlight of the Day of Resolve is the massive aerial procession featuring the UAE Armed Forces and Fursan Al Emarat (The Knights). This year is particularly special as the aerobatic team will be prominently showcasing their new fleet of Hongdu L-15 jets, which replaced the aging MB-339s in 2025.

The displays will consist of two waves: a 2-hour-long helicopter formation followed by a high-speed fighter jet flyover.

The Significance of January 17

The Day of Resolve (sometimes referred to as the Day of Solidarity) was established following the January 17, 2022, Houthi militia attack on civilian sites in Abu Dhabi. Rather than inciting fear, the event galvanized the “unbreakable bond” between the UAE leadership and its residents.

Today, the day serves three core purposes:

  1. Honoring the Martyrs: Remembering the brave soldiers and civilians who have sacrificed for the nation’s security.
  2. Displaying Readiness: Showcasing the UAE’s advanced defense capabilities and the professionalism of its Air Force.
  3. National Cohesion: Reaffirming that the security of the UAE is a “red line” supported by a vigilant and aware society.

Technical Prowess in the Skies

Observers should look for the signature black-and-gold paint scheme of the Fursan Al Emarat. Flying between 500 and 1,000 feet, the aircraft will paint the skies with smoke trails in the colors of the UAE flag (red, green, white, and black). The precision of these displays is intended to mirror the discipline and stability that the Day of Resolve represents to the global community.

Beyond the skies, iconic landmarks like the Burj Khalifa, ADNOC Tower, and Jebel Jais will be illuminated with the Day of Resolve logo, uniting the country in a single digital and visual message of vigilance.
